Examining Your Spine

So when we examine the spine, once that
injury occurs and that vertebrae gets
shifted out of its normal position
beyond what the spine is intended to do
and it gets stuck in that position
sometimes for years before they come in.
The vertebrae will oftent times shift
and slide and slip back and forth over
time until eventually when they come in
and we examine them, we might find
something that looks like this. And that
constant abnormal pressure or stress on
the joint over years begins to wear and
tear the disc which is in between the
vertebrae just like maybe a brake pad on
your car wears down. You can finally
hear metal every time you press on the
brake. very similar to what happens with
the spine. And more importantly, these
holes where the nerves come out through
the side of the spine, they get smaller
and smaller as this begins to
deteriorate. We might even find the
signs of arthritis or bone spurs
developing. And then we know this person
may have woke up recently with the pain
or had a sudden onset, but it’s been a
process that’s been building up for
years and years. And so with that
information, I can tell a patient what
to expect from the treatment and how
long it might take for them to begin to
feel better and move
